TITLE: Sr. Data Scientist
LOCATION: New York City, London or Jacksonville (Hybrid)
SALARY: 160,000 - 180,000 base + bonus & equity (based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of private markets and alternative investments, coupled with a strong ability to visualize complex data and communicate insights effectively. As a Data Scientist at Canoe, you will play a crucial role mining our large data corpus for new, unique, and compelling insights related to the $10 Trillion alternative investment market.
What You’ll Do:
Utilize advanced SQL skills and AI tools to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from various sources.
Analyze and interpret complex data sets related to private markets and alternative investments.
Develop and implement data models and algorithms to uncover insights and trends.
Create compelling and easy-to-understand data visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and build data-driven products and solutions.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data science, finance, and technology.
Work with the Product and Machine Learning teams to develop new strategies for data extraction from unstructured text such as PDF’s.
What We’re Looking For:
Proven experience as a Data Scientist, with a focus on private markets and alternative investments.
Strong executive presence, with the ability to instill confidence in senior stakeholders and represent the organization with credibility and polish.
Expertise in SQL and Python.
An understanding of performance measurement for private market investments including drawdown funds, hedge funds, private debt, direct investments in private companies, and other illiquid assets.
Experience working with large and complex datasets.
Strong skills in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, D3.js) and techniques.
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create clear and concise reports and documentation.
Proficiency in Python.
Solid understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.
Preferred:
Experience with AWS, Snowflake, Postgres, and MySQL.
Familiarity with financial modeling and investment analysis.
Experience building and launching B2B products.
Experience building products with LLMs, and using AI agents to automate processes.
Experience working with Data Engineering teams to clean and productionize data pipelines.
An understanding of fund accounting and forecasting models.
Experience working in family office, institutional investor or PE/VC environment.
